|
By Craig Olson Hillcrest senior Cody Aasness has received a scholarship to the University of Minnesota-Crookston and has signed his letter of intent stating that he will play basketball for the Golden Eagles. UMC plays in what is probably the best Division II conference in the country, the NSIC. One of the conference teams, Winona State, has won the national championship two of the last three years. Aasness had an outstanding high school career for Gregg Preston at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, finishing with 997 career points, the fifth highest total in school history. He holds career records for most 3-point field goals in a career (147), season (70) and game (7). During his senior season Aasness averaged a team high 17.2 points per game, pulled down 3.2 rebounds per game and dished out 3 assists per game. He was an all-conference performer in the Little Eight Conference twice, was a captain of the team his junior and senior seasons and was an honorable mention all state selection this year. |
