State Auctioneers Association Convention in St. Cloud, MN on Thursday, January 11th. These contests are split into 2
different groups. The Rookie contest is for auctioneers who have been in the business for less then 2 years. The
Champion Auctioneer contest is for auctioneers who have either won the Rookie contest one of the previous years or has
been in the business longer then 2 years. Winner of the Rookie contest is automatically entered into the Champion
Auctioneer contest for the next year. Judging is based on the auctioneers appearance and poise/confidence, vocal
quality, clarity, vocal expression, crowd control, eye contact, accuracy, item description and interviewing skills.
Andrew, 22, was crowned the Reserve Champion Auctioneer of the 34 entries. This was a great honor for
him, since it was his first year competing in the Champion contest. He was awarded Rookie champion in 2006 and was able
to present his younger brother, Austin, 19, the award for Rookie Champion this year. Austin has had his auctioneers’
license for 3 months and this is his first year entering the contest. Andrew and Austin are following a family
tradition, Vince, their father, was awarded the Champion in 1997. Both brothers work with their father in the auction
business in the Frazee area. |
